SACRED HISTORY for April 11th
1986 Adi Da Samraj Gathers with devotees and “Considers” renunciation in the Reality-Way of Adidam.
His Divine Presence Parama-Sapta-Na Adi Da Says:
“Renunciation tends to get associated with a (perhaps) more quiet orientation, because it is associated with equanimity. But the quietistic ideal, and so forth, is only useful and right up to a point.
You cannot control conditions of existence absolutely. You must transcend them.
Minimizing need is a profound principle. The more you need, the more subject to disturbance you are. If you get to the point where there is nothing you need that amounts to anything, there is nothing disturbing anymore. The only reason why things are disturbing is that they frustrate some need or other.
Renunciation relative to the body-mind-complex is only a supportive principle. The real practice is the discipline of attention, surrender via attention, even to the point of transcending attention. Through all this discipline, then, you must Realize the Inherent Love-Bliss-Fullness and how It is not dependent on the body-mind-complex and is never, in fact, in the body-mind-complex. Love-Bliss-Fullness is Always Inherently Free, Transcendentally Spiritually Existing.”
Adi Da goes on to Say:
“The tendency, through the motion of attention, is to be always thinking: ‘I am the body’, ‘I am the body-mind’, ‘I am this and that person’, ‘I look this and that way’, ‘I need this and that’. What really is ‘I’ is That Which Is at the ‘root’ of attention, Prior to attention, Prior to the ‘self’-contraction. It is not an ‘anything’. It is not an ‘I am this’ or ‘I am that’. It is That Which ‘I’ Is in Truth, Prior to its own arising.
In that case, Realization is not a matter (anymore) of being what attention suggests. It is not a matter of ‘I am this or that’. It is not a matter of that which is added to Consciousness. It is a matter of Consciousness Itself. If That is your impulse, if the Realization of That is your impulse, then you must practice conservatively right renunciation, relinquishing attention from where it is tending to go and redirecting it toward its Source.” ~Adi Da Samrajashram
