SACRED HISTORY for June 9th
1992 Adi Gathers with devotees and Discourses on the true renunciate disposition.
His Divine Presence, Parama-Sapta-Na Adi Da, Says:
“When you are Given the Gift of this Great Vision, you have to incarnate it. A renunciate accepts no impediment to ecstasy, no impediment to the Law, no impediment to rightness, no impediment to devotion. He or she accepts no limitation whatsoever. This is how you really grow. Listen to the ‘news’ on any day. I listen to it every day. It is nothing but a mass of extraordinary, horrific suffering. Everybody is ‘laying down the law’ to one another, to enforce their deaths. People are dying by the thousands every day, in horrific torment and oppression. People are bringing this about because of their ignorance–not Divine Ignorance–ego-ignorance.
You must get the Great Vision, the Great Transmission, and oblige yourselves, by intention, to incarnate It–be extraordinarily different than people are in their suffering. That will be your mission, then. That will be the substance of it. That will be how you make a truly cooperative gathering. That will be how you live. And this is how you will grow in practice–just by that, and not by figuring out your reactive bullshit. It is a commitment to Ecstasy. That is what renunciates are about, not dried up esoteric lawfulness, in the conventional sense. The Great Law is to be fulfilled, not the petty dharmas. As Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita, ‘Abandon all dharmas and cling to me only.’ All the lesser laws in this Divine Ecstasy are utterly relinquished by a great intention, filled by Great Vision, by true renunciates. That is what that sacred text is about, and what every sacred text is about if it is rightly understood, esoterically understood.”
Adi Da goes on to Say:
“Life, rightly lived, is an intentional freefall. You cannot at all prevent your death. You cannot call the hour, the day, the moment of it–it could happen at any time. Even right now, during this conversation. Anybody could drop dead at any time. You cannot prevent it. You can build your life on trying to prevent it, but it is an illusory effort, a terrible philosophical ordeal, because you cannot prevent it. You can indulge in illusions that desensitize you to this, and that is what most of ‘religion’ is about. That is what exoteric ‘religion’ is, for most people. It is a way of desensitizing them to the facts of existence in this conditional life. One cannot blame them for the fear–and their clinging, then, to consolations. But there is no Truth in it. The true renunciate ‘knows’ there is no Truth in it, and relinquishes those consolations, and allows the freefall. Then you make great discoveries. That is what the esoteric life is about–the discoveries in freefall.
You cannot control the ultimate thing you fear. That freedom from fear is about allowing the freefall and relinquishing consolation. Your right relationship to Me is not a matter of consolation, it is a matter of the embrace of the Beloved, the certainty of the Absolute, under circumstances in which you are utterly bereft of certainty otherwise, in which you allow the overwhelming force of conditionality to be the way it is. It is only in that disposition that you discover the Truth of Existence.” ~Adi Da Samrajashram
