1994 Adi Da Samraj Gathers with devotees and Discourses on the seriousness required for devotional surrender to be true and effective.
His Divine Presence, Parama-Sapta-Na Adi Da, Says:
“You must not consent to practice devotion superficially. You must truly go beyond the limit, the ordinariness, even ordinary well-being in the moment. This must be surrendered also. In some traditions, individuals remind others that they must die every day, die constantly.
True practice, true devotion, is to die in every moment–it is to surrender totally most profoundly and not settle for anything less. This is the mark by which you should measure your practice in every moment–otherwise, when more difficult occasions come, before death or at death, you may feel you are rather unequipped and suffer disturbance unnecessarily.
Death is simply the ultimate, most comprehensive demand for surrender–and difficult moments are the more profound moments of the demand for surrender. The rest of the time, even though it may seem that you do not have to surrender so profoundly, you must oblige yourself to do so–otherwise, you will not be equipped to deal with difficulty and death, and it is what you do not surrender that makes you neurotic. It is the death you do not allow to be touched by devotion that makes you disturbed and ego-possessed.
This surrender is beyond everything that separates, everything that makes a difference, every sense of separation, every characteristic of ego-possession, of limit. Only by practicing with such profundity, such depth, can you grow and move beyond the beginnings and then advance.” ~Adi Da Samrajashram
